Guy critiques film trailer, but did Netflix send the bullies ???

The film Unicorn Store comes out today, its synopsis: After failing out of art school and taking a humdrum office job, a whimisical painter get a chance to fulfil her lifelong dream of adopting a unicorn.

Unicorn Store directed and starring Brie Larson and also starring Samuel L. Jackson, is getting fairly mixed reviews from film critics. Peter Debruge of Variety was critical of the film, saying it fails to create the right tonal balance, and called it “a creative misfire”.

Jesse Hassenger of The Verge wrote “The world, the movie seems to be saying, expends a lot of energy on blithely incoherent messages to women, based on half-baked ideas rather than their actual experiences. As it turns out, Unicorn Store does the same thing.”

As of writing, the film is sitting at 3.6/10 on IMBD.

One twitter user, @TheJoeGil  having watched the trailer, posted: “Lol this looks like bleh. Take notes from Jonah Hill, who was mentored by Martin Scorsese, and took years before he made his directorial debut out of respect for the artistry of film and the position of director. This seems like she’s just riding Captain Marvel’s wave.”

That tweet solicited a “credentials” response from @Netflix and retweeted by @brielarson which then seemed to have caused an avalanche of bullying on the twitter user. Not only did @TheJoeGil receive a series of abusive messages, news articles followed calling him a troll. All for having posted that tweet.

Twitter has policies on encouraging or calling for others to harass an individual. It saysWe prohibit behavior that encourages others to harass or target specific individuals or groups with abusive behavior. This includes, but is not limited to; calls to target people with abuse or harassment online and behavior that urges offline action such as physical harassment”

So did @Netflix and @brielarson encourage harassment by this tweet?

@NetflixFilm Mar 22 Replying to @TheJoeGil @brielarson “Brie Larson has: 58 acting credits 53 award noms 2 writing credits 2 short film directing credits 1 composing credit 1 producing credit 1 Oscar 1 feature directing credit Been working since 1998 Worked with Apatow, Baumbach, Wright, Boden, Fleck, Abrahamson, and more.”

Or is a case of overenthusiastic supporters reading too much from an honest response to a mild critism?

As for the trailer, you can judge for yourself, was TheJoeGil out of line on his opinion?
